The Himlung Expedition (7,126 m) lies northeast of the giant Annapurna range close to the Tibetan border, on the watershed of Nepal and Tibet. Remote villages, a fascinating culture and almost unknown mountains are the key characteristics of this region. It was approved for climbing in 1992, but the Himlung Himal is still not visited very often, even though the ascent route of this 7,000 m high mountain is technically easy and very interesting. The ascent of the Himlung Himal via the normal route poses no technical problems. The route leads through snow and ice without any rock climbing passages. Nevertheless, climbing Himlung Himal is a challenge: climbing long distances in high levels of altitude has to be mastered.
