The sparkling, pristine blue and green waters of the Gokyo Lakes are one of Nepal’s most memorable sights. They comprise the highest freshwater lake system in the world, at around 4,800 meters. The Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek is ideal for people who want to trek in the Everest region, but who want more variety of views and fewer nights spent at very high altitude.
Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek is one of the less strenuous treks in the Everest region, starting with a flight to Lukla. From there the first day of trekking reaches you to Phakding and the second day to Namche, where you can visit the Sherpa museum to experience the Sherpa culture. After spending a day at Namche, we move on to Dole, then to Machhermo and finally to Gokyo. The return takes normally two days unlike the approach that takes three days. For the maximum of Himalayan sights and adventure experience, spend a day at Gokyo and try climbing Gokyo Peak. You can certainly have a heavenly feel from the top of this peak. This is why trekking in Nepal is one of the most sought after outdoor adventure activities.
